ante-Natal Post-Natal

Many women can experience pain during their pregnancy. If you are one of them, it’s important to note that whilst the causes may not often be serious in nature, it is essential that you get the right diagnosis and treatment…this is where Women’s Health Chartered Physiotherapists can help! At Pilates Physiotherapy Cork, Fiona O’Connor specialises in working with Ante-Natal and Post-Natal women.Conditions commonly treated include…

Pelvic Girdle Pain
This describes pain in the joints that make up your pelvic girdle. The discomfort is often felt over the pubic bone at the front, below your tummy or across one or both sides of your lower back, the pain can sometimes also be felt at the front or the back of your thighs. Symptoms commonly include pain or difficulty walking, standing on one leg (e.g. climbing stairs) or moving your legs apart (e.g. getting in or out of your car), clicking or grinding in your pelvic area and pain during normal activities of daily life.

Stress Incontinence
This is when the bladder leaks with a cough or sneeze, or during light or strenuous activity that puts strain on the bladder. Stress Incontinence is generally due to weakness in the Pelvic Floor muscles.

Post Natal Care
Here physiotherapy is able to help the mother in her recovery by teaching specific exercises and offering invaluable back-care and health education information. Fiona can also assess and alleviate common post-natal problems such as a painful perineum or coccyx, back pain and stress incontinence.
